1-9 Documents 2022 – Form I-9, also known as the Employment Eligibility Verification, is an United States Citizenship and Immigration Services form. It is mandated under the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act. It is used to verify identity and legal authorization for all employees working in the United States. Every U.S. employers must ensure the correct completion of Form I-9 for each person they hire for employment within the United States.

When Are Employers Required To Reverify Or Update I-9 Documents?
1-9 Documents 2022 – Employers must revise an employee’s documentation only when the employee’s employment authorization form (EAD) or the receipt has expired. Reverification must be done prior to the expiration date of the work authorization. If the employer is not able to reverify the work authorization, the worker’s work authorization will not be extended. Temporary workers with work visas are advised to file for extensions no later than 90 days prior to the expiration date of their EAD. Certain categories of employment eligibility may be allowed automatic extensions for their expired EADs if they file in time EAD renewal requests.
Employers can fill out the Section 3 of the original Form I-9, if the original is the current version of the form. If the original Form I-9 is older, employers must fill out Section 3 or complete a completely new I-9 using the latest version. In either of these scenarios the employer should add the new Form I-9 to the original one.
The employee who signed the receipt for an item when filling out the I-9 initial form will have 90 days to provide the employer with a new form. The employer should make use of Section 3 on the current version of the Form I-9 to modify the information or draw a line across the previous information (so that it is still legible) and then add the new information, then sign and initial the new information. If the employee is able to present an acceptable document within the specified time that the employer has to fill out Section 2 on the new Form I-9. Attach it to the original Form I-9.
I-9 forms that contain green cards that are no longer valid then , they should not be issued again. Green cards signify permanent residence in the United States, and they expire as driver’s licences do. The date of expiration doesn’t indicate that the holder is no longer authorized to work within the U.S.
Employers can also modify Section 3 of Form I-9 when an employee’s name changes. However, it is not required to do this.
