2022 I-9 – Form I-9, also known as Employment Eligibility Verification is a United States Citizenship and Immigration Services document. It is required by the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act. It is used to verify identity and legal authorization for employees working within the United States. What Is The Deadline For Employers To Revise And Correct I-9 Documents?
2022 I-9 – Employers are required to update an employee’s documentation only when the employee’s employment authorization certificate (EAD) or the receipt has expired. Revisions must be made no later than the expiration date of the work authorization. If the employer is not able to amend the work authorization, the worker’s work authorization will end. Temporary visa holders are advised to apply for an extension not later than 90 days prior to the expiration date of their EAD. Some employment eligibility categories may be allowed automatic extensions of their expired EADs if they file in time EAD renewal requests.
If the form originally used is current employers may complete the Section 3 of the original I-9. If the original Form I-9 is older, the employer should fill in Section 3 or complete a completely new I-9 on the current version. They expire similar to driver’s licenses. The date of expiration doesn’t suggest that the person who holds the card has been unable to work within the U.S.
