What Is The Deadline For Employers To Reverify Or Update I-9 Documents?

2022 I9 Form – Employers are required to reverify the employee’s documentation at the time that an employee’s employment authorization (EAD) or receipt expires. The reverification process must be completed prior to the date of expiration for the authorization to work. The worker could lose their job if their employer fails to reverify the authorization. Temporary visa holders are advised to file for an extension no later than 90 days before the expiration date of their EAD. Certain categories of employment that make timely EAD renewal applications can be granted automatic extensions of their expired EADs.

Employers are also able to change the information on the Form I-9 within Section 3 when an employee has changed their name, however there isn’t a requirement to do this.
