Federal I9 Form 2022 – Form I-9, officially the Employment Eligibility Verification, is an official United States Citizenship and Immigration Services form. Mandated by the Immigration Reform and Control Act in 1986, it’s used to confirm the identity and legal authority to work of all employees who are paid in the United States. Every employer in America must complete Form I-9 correctly for each employee they employ to work in the United States.

What Is The Deadline For Employers To Revise And Amend I-9 Documents
Federal I9 Form 2022 – Employers are required by law to reverify the documentation of employees only when the employee’s employment authorization document (EAD) or the receipt is expired. The reverification must be completed no later than the actual date of expiration of the work authorization. If the employer fails to amend the work authorization, the worker’s work authorization will not continue. Temporary workers with work visas are advised to request extensions no later than 90 days before the expiration date of their EAD. Certain categories of employment that are able to submit on time EAD renewal applications can be granted automatic extensions of their expired EADs.
Employers may complete Section 3 of the Form I-9 originally used provided that the original version is latest version of the form. If the original Form I-9 is older, the employer must complete Section 3 or complete a completely new I-9 with the current version. The employer must join the updated Form I-9 with the original.
A person who has given the receipt for an item when filling out the I-9 initial form is given 90 days to present his employer with a replacement document. Employers are required to use Section 3 of the current Form I-9 to modify the details or draw an outline through the old information so that it can be read. After the line is drawn, it is time to insert the new information , then confirm the change by inking it. If, within the 90-day period, an employee wants to present a different acceptable document that differs from the receipt that was issued to, the employer should complete Section 2 of a new Form I-9 and attach it to the original Form I-9 and provide a note of explanation in the box for additional information that is located on page 2 of the Form I-9 or as a separate attachment.
I-9 forms that include green cards that are expired they were issued, should not be renewed. Green cards are proof of permanent residence in the United States, and they expire as driver’s licences do. The expiration date does not indicate that the holder has been unable to work within the U.S.
Employers may also amend Section 3 of Form I-9 if the employee’s name is changed. But, it’s not required to do it.
