I 9 2022 – Form I-9, which is officially known as the Employment Eligibility Verification, is an United States Citizenship and Immigration Services form. What Is The Time Frame For Employers To Revise And Update I-9 Documents

I 9 2022 – Employers are required to reverify the employee’s documentation whenever an employee’s employment authorization (EAD) or receipt is due to expire. Reverification should occur at least one year prior to the date of expiration for the work authorization. Employees could be fired if the employer does not reverify the authorization. Temporary visa holders are advised to file for an extension at least 90 days before expiration of their EAD. Certain categories of employment eligibility that are able to submit early EAD renewal applications could receive automatic extensions of their expiring EADs.

Employers may fill out Section 3 of the Form I-9 originally used provided that it is the most latest version of the form. If the original Form I-9 is older, the employer must fill in Section 3 or complete a completely new I-9 for the most current version. The employer should add the new Form I-9 with the original.

If an employee has given a receipt for a document upon initially completing the I-9, he or she has 90 days to show the employer the updated document. The employer must use Section 3 of the current Form I-9 to amend the information or draw an outline through the old information so that it can be read. Once the line has been drawn, add the new information , then mark the new information and then ink it. If the employee presents an acceptable document within the stipulated time, the employer must complete Section 2 of the new Form I-9. Attach it to the original Form I-9.

I-9 forms that contain green cards that have expired since they were issued, should not be renewed. Green cards indicate permanent residency within the United States, and they expire in the same manner as driver’s licenses do. But, the expiration date does not mean that the owner has lost their authority to work in the United States.

Employers also have the option of modify the Form I-9 in Section 3 whenever an employee is affected by changed names, however, there is no requirement to do so.
