I-9 2022 – Form I-9, officially the Employment Eligibility Verification, is a United States Citizenship and Immigration Services form. It is mandated under the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act. It is used to confirm identity and legal authorization for employees working within the United States. Every employer in America has to complete the Form I-9 correctly for each employee they hire to work in the United States.

What Is The Deadline For Employers To Revise And Correct I-9 Documents?
I-9 2022 – Employers are required to update the documentation of employees only when the employee’s employment authorization document (EAD) or receipt has expired. The reverification must be completed not later than the date of expiration of the authorization. If the employer is not able to renew the authorization, the worker’s employment may be terminated. Employers who employ temporary work permits are encouraged to file for an extension no later than 90 days before the date on which they will expire their EAD. Certain eligibility categories for employment who file timely EAD renewal applications could receive automatic extensions of their expiring EADs.
If the form originally used is current, employers may fill out the Section 3 of the original I-9. If the original version is an earlier version of Form I-9, the employer should either complete Section 3 on the current version of the I-9 or fill out a new I-9 completely using the latest version. In either case, the employer must attach the new Form to the old one.
If an employee gave an acknowledgment of a document when completing the initial form I-9 and was not able to provide a receipt, the employee has 90 days to present the employer the updated document. When that happens, the employer should use Section 3 on the current version of the Form I-9 to modify the information, or draw a line through the information from the prior version (so that it is still visible) to insert the updated information, and then acknowledge the modification. If the employee presents an acceptable document within the deadline that the employer has to fill out Section 2 on the latest Form I-9. Attach it to the original Form I-9.
I-9 forms that mention green cards that have expired should not be reverified. Green cards are permanent residence permit that is able to be used within the United States. They expire like driver’s licenses. However, the expiration date doesn’t mean that the holders have lost their right to work in the US.
Employers may also amend Section 3 of the Form I-9 if the employee’s name is changed. However, it’s not required.
