When Do Employers Have To Update Or Revise I-9 Documents?

I-9 Form 2022 Printable PDF – Employers are required to reverify an employee’s paperwork only when the employee’s employment authorization document (EAD) or the receipt has expired. Reverification must be done no later than the expiration date of the work authorization. If the employer is unable to renew the authorization, then the worker’s contract may not be extended. Employees who are on temporary work visas are urged to file for extension requests at least 90 days prior to the date on which they will expire their EAD. Certain employment eligibility categories could be entitled to automatic extensions of their expired EADs if they file timely EAD renewal requests.

They expire just like driver’s licenses. The expiration date does not necessarily mean that the owner is no longer able to work in the U.S.

Employers may also amend Section 3 of the Form I-9 when an employee’s name changes. However, it’s not required.
