I-9 Verification 2022 – Form I-9, also referred as Employment Eligibility Verification is a United States Citizenship and Immigration Services document. What Is The Date By Which Employers Must Revise And Correct I-9 Documents?
I-9 Verification 2022 – Employers are required to reverify the employee’s documentation when employees’ employment authorization (EAD) or receipt expires. Revisions must be made prior to the date of expiration for the work authorization. If the employer is not able to update the work authorization, then the worker’s employment may end. Employers who employ temporary work visas are urged to file for extensions at least 90 days prior to the expiration date of their EAD. Certain eligibility categories for employment may be eligible for automatic extensions for their expired EADs if they file promptly EAD renewal applications.
If the form originally used is in use employers are able to fill out Section 3 of the I-9 originally issued. If the original version is a prior version of Form I-9 then the employer must either complete Section 3 on the current version of the I-9 or fill out a brand new I-9 entirely using the latest version. In either case the employer must attach the new Form to the original one.
If an employee provided a receipt for a document when completing the initial form I-9, he or she has 90 days to present the employer the replacement document. Employers should use Section 3 of the current Form I-9 to modify the details or draw an outline of the information that was previously provided to ensure it is legible. After the line has been drawn, insert the new information , then sign and ink the change. If the employee presents an acceptable document within the specified time that the employer has to fill out Section 2 of the current Form I-9. Attach it to the original Form I-9.
I-9 forms that have green cards that have expired since they were issued, should not be renewed. Green cards are a permanent residence permit which can be used in the United States. They expire as driver’s licences do. The expiration date does not necessarily mean that the owner cannot work in the U.S.
Employers are also able to update Section 3 of the Form I-9 in the event that an employee’s name is changed. However, it is not required to do this.
