When Are Employers Required To Update Or Revise Their I-9 Documents?
I9 Form 2020 Printable PDF – Employers should reverify documentation for employees after the employee’s employment authorization (EAD) or receipt expires. The reverification must be completed no later than the actual date of expiration for the work authorization. The worker may lose their job if the employer does not reverify the authorization. Workers who have temporary work visas are advised to file for an extension at least 90 days before the date they expire on their EAD. Certain eligibility categories for employment may be eligible for automatic extensions to their expired EADs if they file on time EAD renewal applications.
If the form originally used is current employers may complete the Section 3 of the I-9 originally issued. If the original form is a prior version of Form I-9 Employers must either fill out Section 3 on the current version of the I-9 or fill out a brand new I-9 completely using the latest version. Employers can also modify Section 3 of Form I-9 in the event that an employee’s name is changed. However, it’s not required.
